Current projects

My current projects are a three-piece group, “The J. Vega Trio”, and a quartet, “J. Vega & Friends”. The members vary, but the band has included such fine players as Leslie Baker, Marty Buttwinick, Ron Javorsky, and Mario Leal (bass), and Kim Diaz, Marian Grau, Michael LeBrun, and Kurt Medlin (drums). When the quartet plays, my friend Vic Estrada (sax/flute) is on hand, and sometimes I work in a duo format with Terry Cano (keys). All of these folks are great players and good people, and I enjoy making music with them.

We play mostly standards, and pretty much arrange the tunes on the stand, although I’m currently trying to get the quartet to record a CD of original material (stay tuned!). I also play solo jazz guitar occasionally, which I find challenging and enjoyable.
